Blades  Hair Studio

Downtown Opened 1984

Blades Hair Studio opened in 1984 and situated in between George St and York. With some of the staff at the bar after work  across from Blades in the Market Mall. They became friends with a lot of the merchants in the Mall.  Some great  mom and pop stores and Boko Bakery was one them. Kim still has some clients from back then. Wow! 38 years ago now we are now 2022 how time flies.

A Lovely Story About Our Mum

She Got On Fabulously  with the Gay Guys

I have a lovely story about our mother she was like Dear Abby to some of the gay guys who worked at Blades Hair Studio downtown. I was the busiest and she had her hair coiffed by one of them. She’d be telling her jokes they would be laughing their heads off, she was a comedian and one of a kind with a great sense of humour. Some of them and their boyfriends would call her on the phone  ðŸ“ž back then no cell phones 📱. She was like a mother to them and accepted them for who they were. She was kind hearted, never criticized, just listened to their stories. Some of these guys were ostracized by their families. She was always for the ones who were different and didn’t fit in and took them under her wing.

One place they liked to go Mother Tuckers as it was called  back then, it was right across from their Blades Hair Studio. That was situated near the back door of The Market Mall where their clients could park and didn't have far to go.

In The Byward Market  Ottawa

Watching these video brings back great memories walking through the Market chatting with the merchants and smiling at people and saying hello. Going to the small boutiques and outside patios for lunch in the summer. All the great fresh fruits, veggies and flowers you could buy in the market area and near the Rideau Centre. Sometimes after work going out for cocktails  and dinner what wonderful memories of way back  then.
